OS-29: Exclude Student(s) From Class, Building, System Averages

DESCRIPTION

If you wish to exclude one or more students from your class, building and system averages:

  1. choose OS-29 on your Order for Scoring Service
  2. contact the Nelson Education Scoring Service for an outline of the method(s) of coding the students. This will depend on the type of answer document that your students are using.
  3. code each student's answer document, as outlined in (b)
If step (a) is not completed, OS-29 will not be applied to your order, even if some students have been coded for exclusion.

If you are ordering OS-29, ensure that students are coded accurately for exclusion. If OS-29 is ordered, and if other student(s) are inadvertently coded, they will be excluded from the averages.

Excluded students are not eligible to contribute to any of the class averages:

  • in the Student List Report
  • to the Building and System Averages
  • to the frequency distributions
  • local norms calculations
  • item analysis tabulations, including these optional services (when ordered):

    • OS-2 - Frequency Distributions with Percentile Ranks
    • OS-3 - Local Norms Reporting Service
    • OS-5 - Group Item Analysis
    • OS-8 - Student Performance Chart
    • OS-9 - Building & System Averages, Sorted by Grade
    • OS-15 - Group Item Analysis with Distracters
    • OS-19 - Special Group Averages
    • OS-24 - Male and Female Averages
    • OS-32 - Group Narrative Report
    • OS-34 - Extra Set of Building & System Averages
    • OS-38 - Group Performance Chart

When a student is excluded from the averages, a notation "Student is Excluded From Averages" appears on the Student List Report, and may also be re-stated, space permitting, on other reports, when ordered.

This notation does not appear on OS-31 (High Edit or Low Edit) or OS-35 (Combined CTBS/CCAT Report).

 

For your reference, a listing of excluded students will accompany your reports.

OS-29 not only affects the calculation of the class, building and system averages, it also generates a listing with the names of the excluded students, for your files. Within each class, the students are listed in the same sequence as the sheets were arranged when you submitted your order for scoring. If OS-25 (Sort Each Class by Student Name) is ordered, the students in the OS-29 listing will be in alphabetical sequence by the students' last names within each class.

The "per-student charge" applies to all of the students in your order, regardless of the number of excluded students.

SPECIAL NOTE

This service requires special coding of the students' answer sheets. The per-student charge applies to all of the students in your order.

RELATED SERVICES

When OS-3 (Local Norms Reporting Service) is ordered and OS-29 is ordered, the excluded students are eligible to receive Local Percentile Rank scores, but these students do not contribute to the calculation of the local norms.
