Diagnostic Supplement to the WJ III Tests of Cognitive Abilities

CATEGORIES: Ability

SUMMARY

The Diagnostic Supplement (DS) expands on the diagnostic capabilities of the WJ IIIŽ Tests of Cognitive Abilities with eleven new tests, new clusters, and new interpretive procedures that will enhance the diagnostic usefulness of the cognitive battery. Through use of these additional tests and clusters, the DS provides a more complete evaluation of an individual's relative cognitive strengths and weaknesses. It is designed for use in educational, clinical, or research settings with individuals who are age 2 - 90+. The Diagnostic Supplement is ideal for bilingual assessment, early childhood assessment, or other purposes when a language-reduced cognitive ability score is required.

Since the Diagnostic Supplement is co-normed with the Woodcock-JohnsonŽ III, it provides more accurate and valid comparisons between and among the Cattell-Horn-Carroll (CHC) abilities than would be possible by comparing separately normed instruments. The DS also offers professionals:

  • A General Intellectual Ability-Bilingual Scale (GIA-Bil)
  • A Broad Cognitive Ability-Low Verbal Cluster (BCA-LV)
  • A General Intellectual Ability, Early Development Scale (GIA-Edev)
  • Memory for Names, a popular subtest from the Woodcock-Johnson-Revised, with new and more colourful space creatures that are ideal for younger children
  • Additional clusters for several narrom CHC abilities when combined with tests from the WJ III Tests of Cognitive Abilities
  • Expanded measures of certain broad and narrow CHC abilities

The Diagnostic Supplement includes eleven new tests that increase the breadth and depth of coverage for several broad and narrow abilities defined by CHC theory. The following chart outlines the new tests along with the broad and narrow abilities measured:
