Several new clusters are available that are not seen on the WJ III Tests of Achievement, including Brief Reading, Phonics Knowledge, Phonemic Awareness, Oral Language Comprehension, and Total Reading. FEATURES
CONTENTThe WJ III DRB is a comprehensive measure of reading achievement. The WJ III DRB tests correspond to the five essential components of Reading First at either the cluster or test level. Eight interpretive clusters are available. Brief Reading is a screening measure that can be used with children as young as age 3 years, 6 months, and it provides an adequate floor to be useful as a pre-reading measure. Broad Reading is a combined measure of reading decoding (reading speed) and comprehension skills. Basic Reading Skills is a combined measure of reading vocabulary and phonic and structural analysis skills. Reading Comprehension is a broad measure of reading vocabulary and passage comprehension skills. The Phonics Knowledge cluster measures sound-symbol correspondences. Phonemic Awareness measures the ability to analyze and synthesize phonemic information. Oral Language Comprehension measures oral language comprehension at the word and passage levels. Total Reading is a comprehensive measure of reading achievement. INTERPRETATIONThe WJ III DRB assesses specific attributes of reading achievement and important abilities related to reading, giving the examiner valuable diagnostic information. Important comparisons can be made between clusters and tests which help to determine the reasons for reading difficulties. The WJ III DRB Scoring and Reporting Program is included with each test kit and provides several types of interpretative reports. A narrative summary report communicates test results to teachers and other professionals. A Parent Report is also available from the scoring software. This brief report includes a profile by the subject proficiency and a brief explanation that is useful for reporting the results of testing to parents. The Classroom Report from the software program rank orders each subject in a defined group, such as a classroom.
